Tasmania opens 2026–27 skilled visa nominations
Tasmania's 2026–27 state nomination program opened to new Registrations of Interest on 17 August 2026, with 1,250 subclass 190 places and 800 subclass 491 places. Weekly invitations are scheduled to begin on 20 August under updated selection settings.

What opened on 17 August
Migration Tasmania opened the 2026–27 Skilled Migration State Nomination Program to new Registrations of Interest, or ROIs, on 17 August 2026.
An ROI lets a person be considered for an invitation to apply for Tasmanian nomination. It is not itself a nomination application or visa application, and it does not guarantee an invitation, nomination or visa.
Places and weekly invitations
Tasmania received 2,050 nomination places for the program year: 1,250 places for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 800 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
Migration Tasmania says weekly invitations will begin on Thursday 20 August 2026 and be issued progressively across the program year. It also plans to publish weekly figures covering invitations, lowest invited scores, remaining nomination places and ROIs on hand.
Selection settings have changed
The 2026–27 settings revise priority-attribute wording and scoring, place greater weight on longer Tasmanian employment, and update guidance about leave and breaks between jobs. The TSE Gold priority attribute now requires at least 30 hours per week in at least one job.
Income attributes have also been updated. At the date of the official announcement, the nomination application fee is A$387 plus GST, while submitting an ROI remains free. Applicants should check the current official requirements and fees before acting.
Important change for overseas applicants
Migration Tasmania says it does not plan to issue invitations during 2026–27 under the subclass 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles invitation-only pathway.
The state says overseas health and teaching professionals who secure employment with a Tasmanian health provider or school may still be eligible under the subclass 190 Overseas Applicant Health or Education Sector Job Offer pathway.
What applicants should do now
Read the current Migration Tasmania pathway requirements and priority attributes, make sure any SkillSelect Expression of Interest remains accurate, and claim only attributes that can be supported with evidence.
Do not withdraw or replace an existing ROI only because of a headline. First compare the revised settings with your circumstances and consider professional advice if changing an ROI could affect timing, evidence or another visa strategy.
