What is changing
Australia and Indonesia have agreed to introduce a ballot for Indonesian passport holders applying for their first Work and Holiday visa, subclass 462.
The ballot is a pre-application selection process. Eligible people will be able to register when Home Affairs opens registrations, and selected registrants can then proceed with their visa application.
When registrations will open
Home Affairs says registrations are expected to open later in 2026. The Department will publish the opening date, registration steps and any final arrangements on its Working Holiday Maker latest-news page.

What this means for Letters of Support
Some applicants hold an Indonesian Government Letter of Support, known as an SDUWHV, issued in an earlier program year. Home Affairs says this does not reserve a visa place, provide priority or exempt its holder from the ballot.
